Barbless Olive X Caddis Emerging Caddis Adult Fly – 12 Flies Size 18
Premium barbless hooks.
One of the most effective dry flies in the West or anywhere that Caddisflies are prevalent. The X Caddis was created by Craig Matthews of Blue Ribbon Flies in West Yellowstone. This hair wing caddis pattern imitates the emerging adult Caddis as it struggles in the surface film while escaping its nymphal shuck. The X-Caddis rides lower in the water than other Caddis imitations, and is especially effective on slick water or spring creeks.

FAQ
What makes the X Caddis pattern effective in surface fishing?
The X Caddis mimics the emerging adult caddis fly struggling in the surface film as it escapes its nymphal shuck, which creates a natural movement that attracts fish, especially on slick water or spring creeks.
Is the hook barbless and why is that important?
Yes, the hook is barbless, which makes it easier to remove from the fish’s mouth and reduces injury to the fish, promoting better catch release and sustainability.
Can this fly be used in both still and moving water?

Madeleine Black –
Used this fly on a spring creek and caught several trout. The fly moved naturally and stayed on the surface where fish were feeding. The barbless hook made it easy to release the fish without damage.
Christopher Kelly –
Felt like a real caddis emerging. Worked well in low current conditions. The hair wing gave a good imitation of the adult struggling to escape its shuck.
Kimberly Sanderson –
Great for slick water. The X Caddis stayed low and attracted fish that were otherwise not biting. Easy to tie and the barbless design is a plus for ethical fishing.
Julia Jones –
Fished in a small stream and saw good results. The fly didn’t float too high and stayed in the right zone. Would recommend for caddis-heavy areas.
Victoria Knox –
Perfect match for the season. Caught a large trout on the first cast. The detail in the hair wing made it look authentic and the barbless hook made recovery simple.
