Olsen’s Lite Brite Perdigon UV Blue – Barbless

From the designer, Devin Olsen:

My friend Luis Esteban Hernandez first showed me a perdigon nymph back in 2014 while fishing in California together. I was skeptical at first but his catch rates on these nymphs were impressive. I started tying my own versions with krystal flash for the body and the California trout found them irresistible. I also quickly noticed how much faster these nymphs sank than other patterns which allowed me to fish them in smaller sizes and with less weight. The Lite Brite Perdigon in all its variations has since become a standby for me across the globe. The attractor based pink, purple, blue and butano (orange) variations have been surprisingly effective in tough rivers where the trout often are reputed to only take tiny imitative nymphs.

The UV Blue Perdigon sinks faster than standard nymphs, allowing for smaller size and lighter weight presentations. It uses krystal flash for the body, which attracts trout in tough water conditions.

Is this nymph suitable for use in small streams or rivers?

Yes, due to its fast sinking rate and small size, it performs well in small streams and rivers where trout are known to take tiny imitative nymphs.

Can this nymph be used in both still and moving water?

  1. Sean Slater –

Fished this in a cold mountain stream and caught several trout on the UV Blue Perdigon. It sank quickly and stayed natural in the current. The barbless design made it easy to retrieve without snagging.

  2. Jessica Parsons –

Used it in a California river during a dry season. Trout were tough, but this nymph worked better than others I’ve tried. The color stood out without being flashy.

  3. Julian Morgan –

Great for small water conditions. The fast sink rate helped me get the right depth without constant adjustments. Works well with a slow drag technique.
