Barbless Tan X Caddis Emerging Caddis Adult Fly – 12 Flies Size 16
Premium barbless hooks.
One of the most effective dry flies in the West or anywhere that Caddisflies are prevalent. The X Caddis was created by Craig Matthews of Blue Ribbon Flies in West Yellowstone. This hair wing caddis pattern imitates the emerging adult Caddis as it struggles in the surface film while escaping its nymphal shuck. The X-Caddis rides lower in the water than other Caddis imitations, and is especially effective on slick water or spring creeks.

FAQ
What makes the X Caddis pattern effective in surface fishing?
The X Caddis mimics the emerging adult caddis fly struggling in the surface film as it escapes its nymphal shuck, which creates a natural movement that attracts fish, especially on slick water or spring creeks.
Is the hook barbless and safe for fish?
Yes, the hook is barbless, which reduces injury to fish and makes it easier to remove the fly after a catch.
Can this fly be used in both still and moving water?
The X Caddis is especially effective on slick water or spring creeks, but it can also work in moving water where caddisflies are present.

Jake Mills –
Used this fly on a spring creek and caught several trout. The barbless hook made it easy to land the fish without damaging them. The fly moved naturally and worked well in the surface film.
Leah Robertson –
Felt like a real caddis emerging. The hair wing gave a good texture and the fly stayed on the surface well. A bit more sensitive than other patterns, but effective when the water was still.
Dominic Arnold –
Great for targeting fish on slick water. The X Caddis mimics the struggle of the adult caddis, which triggered strikes. Easy to tie and the barbless design is a plus for fish health.
Kevin Pullman –
Worked well in a moderate current. The fly stayed in place and attracted fish that were otherwise not biting. Slightly more expensive than basic patterns, but worth it for the realism.
Dominic Henderson –
Caught a large trout on this pattern during a morning drift. The fly’s natural movement and low ride made it stand out. Highly recommended for caddisfly-heavy waters.
