Butch’s Drake – Mayfly Dry Fly
While this pattern has been around for a while, one of our beloved local customers keeps raiding his old guide boxes and leaving his version for us here at the shop.
We love this pattern for big Green Drakes on the Deschutes and the Metolius.
Big profile, floats well, easy to fish!!
This certainly works for caddis when you need it to (Butch says to cut the tail off first).

Fished this on the Deschutes last weekend and got great strikes on Green Drakes. The float is excellent and it’s easy to cast. I followed Butch’s advice and cut the tail for caddis use—worked perfectly.

A solid pattern that performs well in the current conditions. It floats naturally and doesn’t sink. I’ve used it on both Deschutes and Metolius with good results.

Got this from a local customer’s old box. It’s a classic and works well for dry flies. The big profile helps it stay on top of the water. Cut the tail for caddis and it’s a great alternative.
