Triple Red Cockatoo Apisto
Triple red cockatoo apistos are one of the most popular selectively bred varieties of Apistogramma cacatuoides. Through choosing only the fish with the best color and markings, breeders have produced a fish that has a bright reddish-orange anal, dorsal, and caudal (tail) fin covered in black markings. The three fins having such color gave rise to their nickname of triple red. Fish with color in only two fins are often referred to as double red.
We currently offer a cheaper B-grade option for these fish. B-grade Triple Red Cockatoo Apistos are ones that do not have full red coloration in all three sets of fins. These can have a single, double, or incomplete third set of red fins.

FAQ
What does B-grade mean for Triple Red Cockatoo Apistos?
B-grade Triple Red Cockatoo Apistos have incomplete red coloration in one or two of the three fin sets. They may show single or double red fins, with the third set being partially or fully missing. This is a more affordable option compared to A-grade fish with full red fin coverage.
Are the fins of Triple Red Cockatoo Apistos fully red?
In A-grade fish, all three fins (anal, dorsal, and caudal) have full red coloration with black markings. In B-grade fish, not all fins show full red coloration, and some may have only partial or missing red fins.
How are Triple Red Cockatoo Apistos different from double red fish?
Triple red fish have full red coloration in all three fins (anal, dorsal, and caudal), while double red fish have red coloration in only two of the three fins. The triple red variety is more sought after due to its full color display.

Received my Triple Red Cockatoo Apisto and it’s vibrant. The red fins stand out well against the black markings. It’s active and healthy in the tank. The fish looks exactly as described, though I noticed the red on one fin is slightly lighter than expected. Still, it’s a great addition to my community tank.

The fish arrived quickly and looks good. I ordered the A-grade version, and the red coloration on all three fins is impressive. It’s a bit more expensive, but the quality justifies the price. I’m happy with the color and activity level.

Got a B-grade fish and it has red on two fins with the third showing only partial red. It’s not as flashy as the A-grade, but it’s still active and seems healthy. I’m okay with the grade since it’s more affordable.
